UPP-Sol, Urban Photovoltaics: Polygeneration with Solar Energy, is a European Commission funded project within the 6th Framework Programme.
Submitted under the Thematic priority area ‘Sustainable Energy Systems’ of the call for proposals for indirect RTD actions under the specific programme for research, technological development and demonstration ( Call identifier:FP6-2005-TREN-4) , UPP-Sol is a STReP aiming to the demonstrate solar photovolataics systems that provide electricity, heating and cooling (polygeneration), integrated in the urban environment.

In more details ...

UPP-Sol project is an EC funded basic research project with a duration of 36+10 months starting the 1st June 2007.
UPP-Sol is made up of a pan-European consortium of Research Centres, Universities, Local Authority and Industries.
The main goal of the UPP-Sol project is to demonstrate the innovative technology of small solar concetrating collectors, designed for and installed on urban structures, providing multiple energy products to a nearby consumer.

Specific project objectives are:

  • Analyze the energy needs, requirements and constraints of two end-users, in Italy and in Spain, and develop the best approach to provide these needs with solar photovoltaic polygeneration
  • Perform a detailed design of two solar polygeneration solutions that address the energy needs as well as other requirements such as architectural and regulatory constraints for the two end-users.
  • Test the demonstrating system installed in Italy and collect performance and reliability data over an extended period of time.
  • Analyze the test results and evaluate, revise and improve the system design.
  • Develop a future product definition and a strategy for industrial production and commercialization.
